I feel a great privilege in being able to reach so many of you through our new site. It’s been about 7 months since I arrived at Duke University and provided the opportunity to develop and direct the Duke Center for Sustainability & Commerce. Our team is as diverse as our audience. The researchers and students at the Center include engineers, physical, life and social scientists as well as business and policy professionals.
We are dedicated to conduct and make readily available the most recent research, data, policies and innovations on firm and product sustainability. Our efforts are geared to support decision makers, peer researchers and educators and the general public. The Duke Center for Sustainability & Commerce is focused on creating a new generation of organizational and technological innovations to meet the challenges that come with the rapid population increase and urbanization of our planet that will include global middle class expanding from 1-4 billion persons.
Complex problems require bringing together the best ideas. It is with that in mind that this site will promote not only the work done by our staff but we will serve to become an exchange of innovations and research from around the globe. My future entries will focus on presenting many of these new ideas, research efforts, industry initiatives and governmental policies with a focus on exploring their scientific underpinnings and broader implications.
I hope to hear back from you and your ideas on how we can best serve the community of scientists and interested parties focused on firm & product sustainability.
